Oconee County leaders have announced the community's first mass vaccination event scheduled for on Saturday, April 17 from 9 AM to 1 PM .
The event will be held at the Oconee County Civic Center at 2661 Hog Mountain Road in Watkinsville. The space and configuration of the Civic Center will allow approximately 50 individuals to be vaccinated and observed at 15-minute intervals. There will be no charge for the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.
Registration is required for the event and may be accessed via this link beginning at 9 AM on Wednesday, April 7. You may also register via phone by calling 706-769-5161.
This event is being co-sponsored by the Oconee County Government, Athens Masonic District 6 – Prince Hall, and the City of Watkinsville, with vaccines being provided by University Cancer and Blood Center with support from St. Mary's Health Care System.
VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED!
Observation (clinical): These individuals will be in the vaccinator area to help observe patients during that 15 minute time period and be able to watch patients if they have to be moved to a separate area due to needing to be observed for 30 minutes. May also be asked to help with turning the room over and wiping chairs, getting supplies ready, etc.
Runners (non-clinical): These volunteers help with directing patients while in the building with where they need to go and keep the overall flow of the room. May also help to run GRITS to the area where those volunteers are sitting to enter them in or help vaccinators clean chairs/grab supplies.
Parking Lot (non-clinical): These individuals will be responsible for answering questions from patients before they come into the building, taking their temperature, and handing out consent forms if they have not already filled that out at home and are bringing it in.
