Watkinsville City Council Public Hearings to be held
Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at 12:30 PM, 6:30 PM and Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at 6:30 PM

(Watkinsville, Georgia – May 10, 2022) – The City of Watkinsville has tentatively adopted a millage rate which will require an increase in property taxes by 16.62 percent. The agenda may be accessed here

All concerned citizens are invited to public hearings on this tax increase to be held at the Watkinsville City Hall (191 VFW Drive) on May 18, 2022 at 12:30 p.m., May 18, 2022 at 6:30 p.m., and June 15, 2022 at 6:30 p.m. This tentative increase will result in a millage rate of 2.081 mills, an increase of 0.346 mills over the rollback rate, but no actual millage rate increase from last year.  Without this tentative tax increase, the millage rate would be no more than the rollback rate 1.735 mills. The proposed tax increase for a home with fair market value of $200,000 is approximately $26.99 and the proposed tax increase for non-homestead property (Commercial) with a fair market value of $500,000 is approximately $68.51.

The increase in the city’s overall tax digest is a result of new developments and/or increased value of property located within the city limits.

The Notice of Property Tax Increase is posted online at www.cityofwatkinsville.com (Select "Government" tab, then click on "Budget Information") and available for viewing at City Hall during regular business hours. The notice will also be available at the public hearings. All persons having an interest should be at the public hearing to provide comments.  Written comments may also be submitted by standard mail and addressed to: City of Watkinsville, P.O. Box 27, Watkinsville, Georgia 30677 or sent via email to: jklein@cityofwatkinsville.com. For more information, call 706-769-5161.

Access to the simultaneous broadcast of these public hearings will be available online via this link. In addition, information on how to connect is posted at City Hall.

No final action will be taken at the Public Hearing.
