Census 2020

On April 1, 2020, the U.S. government will be conducting the Census, as mandated by the Constitution. Every 10 years, the Census counts every person living in the 50 states, District of Columbia, and five U.S. territories.

This will be the first time each home will be able to respond to the short questionnaire in one of three ways:

  • online,
  • by phone, or
  • by mail.

It is important to respond, as the count determines not only legislative representation, but also how much federal money each state is eligible to receive for programs like Medicaid, Medicare Part B, the National School Lunch Program, Head Start, and rural assistance programs (like business and industry loans).
